A total of 44 Ex-PYs from Japan and ASEAN nations attended the inaugural SSEAYP Conference for Considering Its Role and Significance. Organised by the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, the virtual conference took place on 24, 31 January & 7, 21 February 2021.

Over the 4 weekly sessions, PYs came together to discuss on the values and significance of SSEAYP, the various challenges and solutions faced during different stages of SSEAYP and on how SSEAYP youths, both alumni and family, can contribute to foster stronger friendships between Japan and the 10 ASEAN member countries for better future mutual understanding.

The discussions culminated in the development of a proposal to summarize the values of SSEAYP identified, which were
1) Foster relations within and across continents;
2) Raising cross-cultural awareness;
3) Bridging topical relevance from Discussion Groups (DGs) to societal
4) Generating social impact to the community; and
5) Developing potential of youths and young adults.

The proposal also outlines clear solutions with KPIs to the challenges that were outlined and hopefully will galvanise JASEAN and future cohorts to implement these solutions successfully and meet the desired outcomes.

A task force was also set up to create a LinkedIn page and group for ex-PYs to connect professionally. Youths who have been on SSEAYP can join this group to build their professional network. We look forward to working together with our JASEAN counterparts and Singapore Alumni to realise our shared SSEAYP vision.
